Why Lit Portraits?

Why are our images lit? Unlike other photographers we use flash in all of our corporate photography whether on location, in the conference room or for a head and shoulders company portrait shoot.

There are many technical reasons why we would want to use flash in our corporate photography but the main reason is it produces better images for our clients. Adding flash to an image brings a modern, bright feel to our portrait and event work which you just don’t get with unlit images. Additionally:-

  • Unlit images seem to age faster in terms of peoples perception of the age of an images either in print or on the web
  • Unlit images tend to be more colour saturated and therefore not as light and vibrant – the colours in a lit image tend to be brighter and have higher luminance which is particularly good for images that will be used on the web
  • In order to work in darker conditions photographers not using flash have to increase their ISO (the sensitivity of the digital sensor on the their camera) but the trade off is loss of sharpness and excessive grain – lit portraiture enables you to use very low ISO’s giving a sharper, cleaner and more vibrant image
  • Shooting without light limits the traditional photographers ability to shoot when it is convenient to you as they are using available light only. Bringing our own light to you means we can shoot perfectly well in any conditions to your timetable
  • Shooting without portable flash means that you are dependent on the lighting available in your office. If your office is lit with strip light then the light being emitted is green or for tungsten lighting it will be orange – hardly ideal for modern corporate portraits.

Out of the office or conference room we bring portable flash lights to our location shoots too. This enables us to shoot at any time anywhere and gives us complete control over the light whatever the conditions. Portable flash also allows us to inject drama into our images giving your assets the impact they need.
